Shenzhen is located in the mid-southern coastline of China Guangdong province. It is close by Tai Ya Bay in the east, near the mouth of Zhujiang river in the west and connecting with Hong Kong on it's south. Shenzhen has 6 districts, 29 street offices and 19 towns. Among the districts, Luohu, Futian, Nanshan and Yantian are located within the special economic zone, while the other two Bao'an and Longgang outside.
District of Luohu
Located in the east of the special zone, Luohu is the financial and trading center and network service base of Shenzhen. It ranges from Liantang in the east to Road Hongling in the west bordering on the District of Futian, from Bridge Luohu with Hongkong on the south to the Administrative Border highway of the special zone bordering on the District of Longgang. The area of the district is 78.89 sq. km, with 8 street offices and 131 community committees.
District of Futian
Located in the central part of the special zone, Futian is the locus of the municipal government and council as well as the center of administration, culture, information and business of Shenzhen. It ranges from Road Hongling in the east bordering on the District of Luohu to Overseas Chinese Town in the west bordering on Nanshan, from Shenzhen River and Shenzhen Bay on the south to Bijian Mountain and Lotus Mountain in the north bordering on the District of Baoan. The area of the district is 78.8 sq. km, with 7 street offices and 116 community committees.
District of Nanshan
Located in the western part of the special zone, Nanshan is the base of hi-tech industry and higher education and the center of distribution and touring. It abuts Shenzhen Bay bordering on the District of Futian to the east; borders on Baoan and estuary of River of Pearl; it ranges from Yangtai Mountain bordering on Shiyan of Baoan in the north to Shekou Bay, Major/Minor Chan Isle in the South. The area of the district is 150.79 sq. km, with 7 street offices, Merchants Group Shekou Industrial Park and 111 community committees.
District of Baoan
Located in the western part of the city and on the north of the Administrative Border, Baoan is the base of hi-tech industry, advanced industries, processing trade, 'three high' foreign exchange profit making agriculture and ecological touring. It ranges from Reservoir LuoTian in the north, to estuary of River of Pearl in the Southwest; It ranges from Dongbao River in the west bordering Dongguan to the checkpoint of Nantou in the east. Shenzhen airport is located within this district. The area of the district is 733 sq. km, with 8 towns, 2 street offices, 34 community committees and 126 villager committees.
District of Longgang
Located in the eastern part of the city and on the north of the Administrative Border, Longgang is the base of hi-tech products export processing, logistics distribution and seaside holiday resort and touring. It ranges from Daya Bay in the east, Dapeng Bay in the south, bordering on Baoan in the west and Dongguan and Huizhou on the north. The nuclear power plants of Daya Bay and Lingao are located within its popedom. The area of the district is 940.9 sq. km, with 10 towns, 25 community committees and 91 villager committees.
District of Yantian
Located in the eastern part of the special zone and on the south of the Administrative Border. Ranging from Wutong Mountain to Dapeng Bay, it is a famous seaside holiday resort with the second large container deep water harbor-Yantian Harbor as well. Covering 75.68 sq. km, the district locates its government in the town of Shatoujiao, along with 2 street offices and 21 community committees.
Geographical spectrum of the special economic zone The special economic zone consists of 4 districts of Luohu,Futian, Nanshan and Yantian. It has a strip-like shape, ranging 49 km in length from Dapeng Bay to estuary of River of Pearl and 7 km in width from Shenzhen River to Wutong Mountain. The area is 327.5 sq.km. The special zone is separated with non-special zones by an Administrative Border of 129.7 km long, along which 8 checkpoints are established at the gate of 8 entrance highway.
