Visit a kindergarten? The China Welfare Institute Kindergarten will be a good choice. It is perhaps the most famous kindergarten in Shanghai.
“This is a kindergarten taking care of young children
This is a kindergarten founded by a great woman
This is a kindergarten carrying down tradition and creating new future
This is a Model, Experimental and research kindergarten”
—— All of the above is the introduction carved on the gate.
The China Welfare Institute Kindergarten was founded by Madam. Song Qing Ling, the Late Honorary President of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. It was one of the earliest boarding kindergarten started after the liberation of Shanghai.
In 1950, Mme. Song Qing Ling and Premier Zhou Enlai set up the Guiding principle of this kindergarten: “WISH THE SAPLINGS GROW UP HEALTHY AND HAPPILY.”
The children in the kindergarten are all between 2~6 years old. In the kindergarten they will learn to take care of themselves, and improve their self-confidence, appreciate the importance of practice, and are developing into well rounded individuals.
Before you visit the kindergarten, you’d better contact with the teacher or its headmaster first, a phone call or an e-mail will be fine, get permission and decide suitable time. After the appointment, you should find the route to get there. As far as I know, the China Welfare Institute Kindergarten is located in Kang Qiao District, Pudong, near the xinhua road, you can take a public bus or a taxi to get there. By the way, you also can prepare some presents for the children and they will regard you as a hero maybe.
